The Welsh Kite Trust

If you're interested in Red Kites, perhaps you'd like to consider becoming a member of the Welsh Kite Trust. This charity is devoted to the monitoring and protection of Red Kites in Wales, Britain's only native population of this beautiful raptor. By becoming a member you will be contributing to the Red Kite's continuing survival, and you will receive a regular newsletter with the latest information on current issues affecting Red Kites.

Gigrin Farm, Rhayader - Red Kite Feeding Station

Gigrin Farm is a Red Kite feeding station, where hundreds of Red Kites may be seen in the air at once, especially during the autumn and winter months. A fantastic experience, rated by ornithologists as one of the best birdwatching spectacles in the UK.

Owl Encounter, Meet the Birds

The Willowburn Hotel

The Willowburn Hotel, Clachan Seil, by Oban

Just south of Oban, on the small island of Seil, is the Willowburn Hotel. Run by Jan and Chris Wolfe, this guest house is a lovely, peaceful retreat and they serve the most wonderful food imaginable. Their garden runs down to the loch shore, with the constant coming and going of birds and a beautiful view to the mountains beyond. You may be lucky enough to glimpse an otter by the island in the loch, as you enjoy Chris's home-made croissants for breakfast. If we write any more about it, we shall have to stop work and go there!

Penmachno Hall

If you're planning a short break in North Wales, we can recommend an excellent Country Guest House here in Penmachno. Simon and Lauraine Awdry are the owners of Penmachno Hall, which they have beautifully renovated, and they are now receiving superb reviews for their good food, high standards and warm welcome. Visit their website for more details.

Kicheche Mara Camp, Kenya

This is where I stayed several years ago, on a visit to Kenya. It's a true African wilderness experience, and one which I'll remember for the rest of my life. If you're thinking about booking an African safari, take a look at what they have to offer.

British Birdwatching Fair

This is the world's first and largest international birdwatching event. The British Birdwatching Fair is held every year at Rutland Water in Leicestershire and attracts all kinds of wildlife lovers from all over the world. Exhibitors include wildlife tour operators, optics retailers, photographers, and (of course) a large number of artists. I usually have an exhibition in the Art Marquee.
