Works in progress and just finished 2010
These are the latest paintings for 2010 fresh off the easel. If you'd like to know more about any of these, feel free to contact me. Please note that, as it is not possible to put all my latest paintings here, it is worth checking in <Originals for Sale> for a comprehensive list of works available to purchase. There may not be many for sale at some times of the year, but all that I have at that time will be shown there, for more information check the features pages <here>.
Please contact me if you would like any further information on any of these images
A new sketch sheet/painting in progress, inspired by some amazing times with a few Mountain Hares in the snow recently
Woodcock painted with a feather - a new painting in-progress
A pencil sketch of two otters playing off Inverie on Knoydart.
Having painted using a feather recently, it is good to have a break and paint something more free flowing. On the easel is a young Mallard duckling swimming in some reflective water, I love painting water and getting it to look liquid.
A flying female Hen Harrier, a central image with surrounding pencil remarques and a few previews of the long landscape of Barnacle geese feeding in the snow.
The first image shows the whole painting at an early stage, the second image is a recent picture and the last one is the finished picture - scanned properly!.
The images below are from 2009

The landscape in the background progresses - the second image shows an enlarged view, roughly twice the size it was painted. Whilst most of my paintings are of wildlife, it is often the backgrounds that make the painting a success - and these take time to create the right effect. The single beech tree on the left took 2 days to paint, even though I paint fast - to music - there is no short cut to get the desired effect.

The painting is now too big to fit in my scanner in one piece, so these updates may slow down from now on ! I shall also be working hard on the atmosphere whilst it progresses, adjusting the lighting, making areas darker (shadows etc) and accentuating the distance. This is an essential part, as without perspective and distance a landscape lacks any 'depth'.
