Commissioning a painting: Colin Woolf - Wildlife Paintings
Commissioning a painting
Have you ever thought about commissioning your own original painting - perhaps of a favourite bird or a special place? Individual commissions make wonderful gifts, and as well as giving a lifetime of pleasure they are a real investment for future generations. This could be for a small pencil or watercolour sketch which may cost only £50, to a large oil painting suitable for an imposing place.

| Colin has painted many commissions over the years, and is always willing to discuss your own ideas for a special painting. If it's of a particular scene or landscape he usually prefers to see it for himself, as photographs are never enough to grasp the feel and atmosphere of a place; birds and mammals are slightly easier in this respect, as he knows most British species very well and may have several ideas already in his mind, just waiting to appear on paper! Venturing further afield, if there are any African birds that you would love to see as a painting, it's well worth asking - Colin visited Kenya a few years ago, and still has vivid images in his mind of the beautiful animal life there. | ![]() |
If you have an anniversary or birthday present in mind, he will consider your requirements and work towards completion by a certain date, often delivering the painting in person if required. Please make your first enquiry as soon as possible before the required completion date. This is important for two reasons: firstly, it will allow Colin enough time to start the 'creative process', as much of the painting is actually done in his head before it reaches the paper; and secondly, the price is fixed at the time of commissioning the painting, and it will not rise even if it takes a long time to complete!
