Background

Born in 1956, Colin is a naturalist at heart, with a passion for wildlife and the countryside.

Much of his childhood was spent in the New Forest, and from roaming freely around the heathland and ancient forests he learned identification skills and gained a remarkable insight into the native wildlife. Compelled to record his findings on paper, he sketched and painted what he saw, and he also captured much of it on film, sowing the seeds for another of his passions - photography.

Although Colin has always had an exceptional artistic talent, he started a career in medical science after leaving University with a degree in Animal Physiology. His in-depth knowledge of the anatomy, structure and proportions of his subjects is a very great asset when it comes to sketching and drawing.

Over the years Colin has forged a reputation for the fine quality of his work and the aesthetic beauty of his paintings. His pictures now hang in collections world-wide, and some of his paintings have been sold through prestigious London galleries. Colin does, however, prefer to meet his clients in person whenever possible, and he still believes very strongly that the only real reason for buying a work of art is because you have fallen in love with it.

Colin now exhibits regularly at national events including the CLA Game Fair and the Scottish Game Fair. He sells original paintings at exhibitions, through his website, and also by private commission. He also has a mailing list of clients who receive an annual newsletter, with details of exclusive Christmas cards and new print releases; to add your name to the mailing list, just send him an email.

If you'd like to see more of Colin's works at first hand, he will be more than willing to arrange a private viewing if at all possible. He would also be delighted to discuss your ideas - and your budget! - if you'd like to commission an original pencil sketch or watercolour painting. Colin has produced a very wide range of commissions for clients over the years, and he has a gift for seeing - and creating - the exact image that a client is looking for.

You can read much more about Colin's childhood, his artistic development and professional career in his new book, 'Daring to Fly'. This beautiful hardback publication gives a fascinating and entertaining insight into Colin's life as an artist - his inspiration, his aims and his beliefs. Showcasing a wide selection of Colin's work from the early 1970s to the present day, 'Daring to Fly' also reveals some valuable tips on technique for aspiring artists in watercolour.
