About Colin

Wildlife Artist Colin Woolf sketching in the field another painting for sale

Colin Woolf is one of the UK's leading wildlife artists. He works in pure watercolour and also oils, with a talent which sets him apart from most other wildlife artists of today. One of his specialities is painting woodcock with a woodcock's pin-feather.

Delicate plumage, atmospheric landscapes and dramatic skies are all distinguishing features of Colin's work. With an instinctive 'feel' for an animal's character and in-depth knowledge of its anatomy, he captures the true essence of his subjects and brings them alive.

Known for painting British birds and mammals in their natural habitat, Colin's favourite subjects include birds of prey - especially golden eagles, red kites and peregrines; game birds, including red grouse, blackcock, partridge, snipe and pheasant; and he also loves painting wildfowl and waders. Among the mammals he draws and paints most frequently are red deer, roe deer and otters.
