A Woodcock resting in snow

'Late Arrival', a woodcock in the snow,
is one of the five prints in my Special Portfolio.
Woodcock often fly overnight, especially during a full moon,
searching for soft feeding ground by streams
and river banks in times of icy weather.

Small flocks of teal make lovely subjects as they feed in the shallows of coastal mudflats. These diminutive, beautifully-plumaged ducks are often found in the company of wigeon.

Koi Carp in an oriental style painting

A collection of superbly-marked Koi, making a restful painting
which reflects some Oriental influence in style and composition.

Woodcock flying out of cover

The depth and perspective in this small study
is achieved by the use of a layering technique,
difficult to master in watercolour.

Country House Painting

It's easy to overlook the individuality of trees, but their distinctive shape and habit
are an essential consideration, especially in paintings such as this portrait of a country estate.
Their beautiful flowing lines and rich colours add grace and a cool, tranquil atmosphere.

Ring Ouzel

A quick, lively pencil study of a running Ring Ouzel.

Marsh Harrier

On a raw, blustery day in the Norfolk fens a Marsh Harrier
flies low over the reedbeds. A small flock of waders
is seen departing rapidly in the distance.
