These are the latest paintings for 2010 fresh off the easel. If you'd like to know more about any of these, feel free to contact me. Please note that, as it is not possible to put all my latest paintings here, it is worth checking in Originals for Sale> for a comprehensive list of works available to purchase. There may not be many for sale at some times of the year, but all that I have at that time will be shown there, for more information check the features pages . . . here>.
A Pencil study of a Martial Eagle Our morning and evening sorties into some quiet glens have given us some memorable times with Blackcock and Greyhens at the lek and feeding in Rowan trees etc. I have completed a couple of paintings inspired by these visits and as is usual, this has started a little flurry of pictures and sketches. I will try and post them all - but this is the second one and the third full painting which is just completed Another newly-completed painting - this is a tall and very striking picture, approx 2 ft high, of a Peregrine at the start of its stoop. The dramatic backdrop of towering clouds has worked very well.
I often receive comments about how detailed my work is, in some ways this (to me) is almost a criticism. If you look at the section of this painting which is enlarged to 4 times the size it is painted (below) - you will see how the detail is 'suggested'. I try hard not to paint in a photographic, crisp style, but to give the impression of detail. This technique is achieved with fast deft strokes of the brush and I am happy to demonstrate and teach this to anyone either as a group in a formal class (just get together a few friends) or one to one. The Ring Ouzel soon made it on to the easel ! This will be a smallish vignette style painting when finished Golden Plovers - whilst waiting for an otter to reappear on the northern shore of Knoydart, a group of Golden Plovers kept me company on the pebble beach, they are making a lovely study - a couple of in progress shots follow. There will be eight birds in total, making an unusual long landscape study sheet. Now finished and being framed - very pleased with this one ! Woodcock painted with a feather - a new painting just finished, which is now being framed Having painted using a feather recently, it is good to have a break and paint something more free flowing. On the easel is a young Mallard duckling swimming in some reflective water, I love painting water and getting it to look liquid. |
